The plan was to rent a car when we landed in Belfast and then drive across the country to the west coast of Donegal. Good plan… and in theory, the ride should only be about 3 hours. Of course – neither of us had been there before, we were both pretty sleep deprived, we were driving on the “wrong” side of the road and the “wrong” side of the car.
Four hours into the drive we found ourselves in Glenveagh National Park at the foot of a cloud-shrouded Mount Errigal. It was beautiful, but no reasonable trip planner would have put us there.
Important safety tip: Google maps eats through your data plan at an incredible pace – and when it loses connection in the middle of your drive, you will find yourself going around in circle.
